Ivy Walz, mezzo soprano has performed extensively as an opera, concert and recital singer. She has performed with Cincinnati Opera, Syracuse Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, the Spoleto Festival, Opera Ithaca, and Tri-Cities Opera. Favorite performed opera roles include Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Nicklausse in Les Contes D’Hoffmann and Dido in Dido and Aeneas. She most recently performed the role of Madame Larina in Syracuse Opera’s production of Eugene Onegin. This season she will perform the role of Guenevere in Triphammer Arts production of Camelot. She takes great joy in performing as a concert soloist, and recent highlights include Handel’s Messiah with many regional orchestras including Symphoria Syracuse and the Binghamton Philharmonic, Mozart's Mass in C minor with Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and the mezzo role in Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. She performs a wide variety of vocal and musical styles and is a proponent of modern music. She enjoys collaborations with numerous living composers, some of whom include Jake Heggie, John Musto, and Dana Wilson. This season she will perform the role of Susan B. Anthony in an operatic world premiere commissioned for the Society for New Music to celebrate the centennial of women’s suffrage in 2020. She also recently performed a world premiere song cycle by composer Steve Dankner called The Merit of Light and will perform this again this season. An active recitalist and vocal chamber music performer; she has enjoyed invited performances with Finger Lakes Chamber Ensemble, SongFest, Cincinnati Art Song Initiative and Denver Art Song Project. She was a semi-finalist in the Joy in Singing Competition for Art Song, as well as a regional finalist for the NATS Artist Award.
Ivy Walz, DMA is a dedicated teaching artist, and is on the voice faculty at Ithaca College, School of Music. Here she teaches a vibrant studio of voice, musical theater and jazz majors. She has taught at the Summer Music Academy at Ithaca College since summer 2012. In summers of 2015, 2016 she taught voice lessons and a master class at the College Audition Advantage at Music Mountain. She is a clinician who gives master classes on healthy singing techniques.
Ivy Walz is an active NATS member and is the current treasurer for the Central New York Finger Lakes region.
She holds the Bachelor and Master of Music from Ithaca College, and the Doctor of Music Arts from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.
